Investing in Resilience: Multi-Purpose Center Goes Solar in Susupe

overnor David M. Apatang and Lieutenant Governor Dennis C. Mendiola inaugurated a new 60-kilowatt rooftop solar photovoltaic system at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Funded through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Energizing Insular Communities program, this $169,555 project is expected to save the government an estimated $30,000 annually in electricity costs while reducing carbon emissions by 88 tons.

Governor Apatang, who led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, emphasized the importance of investing in renewable energy to reduce power bills and strengthen the resiliency of government facilities. “Every dollar saved on energy is a dollar that can be redirected to programs and services that directly benefit our people,” he said.

This project marks the first successful implementation under CUC’s new interconnection policy for government facilities and demonstrates how collaboration between agencies, contractors, and community leaders can advance the Commonwealth’s renewable energy goals.
